We’re proud as punch to announce the line-up for the 2022 Yorkshire Schools Dance Festival. An incredible 60 primary schools, secondary schools and college/FE providers will be taking part, bringing with them 1200 young dancers.
It’s our biggest Festival so far. We were inundated with applications and, to accommodate all schools and colleges, we’ve extended the Festival performances to 15 on each day. Audiences will see fresh new performances developed in response to our 2022 Festival theme, ‘Picture this’.
Nine schools (All Saints Primary School, Braeburn Primary & Nursery Academy, Brotherton and Byram Community Primary Academy, Burton Green Primary School, Darton Primary School, Derwent Dance Company, High Storrs School, Hob Moor Federation Academy and Manor Croft Academy) will join us for the first time. The remaining 52 schools and colleges have performed in previous years and we can’t wait to see what they bring to YSDF22.
Colin Jackson who produces the event said, "We want to make YSDF bigger and better each year and to immerse the young performers in a day of dance experiences that celebrates their talents and broadens their experiences."
Jinny Truman, who leads on design and marketing for YSDF said, "I'm so excited to welcome all the performers that will take part in this year's festival and can't wait to see the amazing talent that will be on show."
York Dance Space are long time collaborators and help us to shape the Festival each year. Hannah and Drew said, “We are so excited that so many schools are taking part this year and delighted to continue supporting this wonderful festival.”
As well as taking part in the event, the young dancers will have the opportunity to take part in dance workshops, watch dance performances and chat to young dancer ambassadors and industry professionals. We work in partnership with Yorkshire Dance, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, One Dance UK and the Children and Young Peoples Dance Network North to provide these opportunities.
We’re grateful for the financial support from Yorkshire Dance, Make it York, City of York Council and Portakabin. Increased production costs means we really couldn’t do it without them.
Tickets go on sale on the 1st of October and are priced at Adults £8 and Child £6 (plus booking fee) and will be available through the Festival website - www.yorkshireschoolsdancefestival.co.uk
