Artist Development Day:

Enhancing Engagements with Schools

Thursday 28th November 2019 - 9.30am to 4.00pm

York Dance Space, 74 Fifth Avenue, York, YO31 0XA

We're inviting dance artists from Yorkshire & the North of England the opportunity to attend a professional development day to inform & refine their engagement with schools as visiting artists.

The Yorkshire Schools Dance Festival is committed to supporting artists across the north to create more opportunities in the education sector and to increase the profile of dance in schools at a time when provision within the curriculum continues to decrease.

The day is offered as part of our Arts Council England funded, 'Engage & Inspire'

extension to the 2019 Yorkshire Schools Dance Festival.

Structure of the day:

Morning

  • Observation of workshop delivery within a primary school

  • Reflection on the experience: considering delivery models, strategies and structures

  • What can dance achieve within schools?

  • Sharing experiences of work in the sector

Afternoon

  • Trends affecting engagement of artists within schools

  • Ofsted and the Curriculum

  • Functioning as artist-educators

  • Marketing to schools

  • Planning activities

Course leaders

The course will be led by two experienced dance educators, Hannah and Drew Wintie-Hawkins from York Dance Space, and Colin Jackson, a Cultural Education Consultant, founder of Creative Learning Partnerships and producer of the Yorkshire Schools Dance Festival.
